Netrisk: Hungarians took out 5 percent more travel insurance this year in the first two months of summer than last year
In the first two months of this year’s main tourist season, Hungarians traveling abroad took out 89,000 travel insurance policies, 5 percent more than a year earlier, the Netrisk insurance broker told MTI on Friday based on its own data.
The average price of travel insurance increased by 4 percent to over HUF 13,000. For that amount, insurers provided insurance for an average of 2.5 passengers for a vacation of more than 7 days. 53 percent of Hungarian tourists went on vacation by car, the average age of the cars was 14-15 years, they wrote.
According to Netrisk’s compilation, 55 percent of those who took out travel insurance in the first two months of summer chose a beach destination, and 20 percent traveled abroad for a city visit. 29 percent of the travel insurance policies were for destinations in Croatia and 23 percent in Italy, with Greece in third place at 11 percent. The average price of travel insurance for those going to Greece is the highest, HUF 15,200 on average, but tourists traveled here for a longer period of time, almost 9 days on average, Netrisk wrote.
