Popular Hungarian strawberry
Data from the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AKI) and KSH’s market price information system (PÁIR) revealed that on the 17th week of 2016 fewer types of Hungarian-grown apples were available in the market and at higher prices. Idared apple was sold for HUF 173/kg in the domestic market, 23 percent more than on the same week of 2015. Apple imported from Austria, Poland and Italy appeared in the market to fill the gap, at prices ranging from HUF 200 to 350.
Hungarian strawberry was sold for HUF 1,600/kg – it cost more than on the same week of 2015. At the Vienna wholesale market Hungarian strawberry was sold for EUR 6/kg. Compared with January 2015, Hungary’s live cattle export reduced by 4 percent in January 2016. The main markets were Turkey, Poland and Austria; live cattle export to Turkey quadrupled and we sold three times more to Poland. Our like-for-like live cattle import increased by 10 percent in January 2016. The majority of cows came from Germany, the Netherlands and Romania.
