International leader arrives to lead MET
From January 1, 2026, Dutchman Huibert Vigeveno will be the CEO of the Swiss-based but Hungarian-rooted MET Group. The company’s current chief operating officer and main owner, Lakatos Benjamin, will continue his work as chairman of the board.
Vigeveno spent three decades at Shell, where he worked as a member of the global senior management and gained experience in many countries, including China, Brazil and Mexico. His international embeddedness and industry weight can strengthen MET’s further European expansion.
According to Lakatos Benjamin, the change will allow him to focus on long-term strategic directions, accelerating the company’s growth and applying new areas, such as artificial intelligence.
MET now has subsidiaries in more than 20 countries, is active in 32 gas markets and 44 international trading points. Its consolidated sales revenue in 2024 was 17.9 billion euros, its gas market turnover was 140 billion cubic meters, and its electricity market turnover was 76 TWh. The group employs 1,100 employees representing nearly 60 nationalities.
