The Mercur hotel in Debrecen has received international sustainability certification
The Mercur hotel in Debrecen has received BREEAM Excellent international certification – it was announced on Friday at the press conference held at the hotel.
BREEAM is a sustainability rating system developed in the United Kingdom, Mercur Debrecen is currently the BREEAM certified hotel building with the highest score in Hungary – explained Sándor Szabó, Deputy General Manager of Szinorg Universal Zrt.
The hotel, built as an investment by a project company of the Szinorg group, opened two years ago in downtown Debrecen and is the first non-capital hotel in Hungary to receive the “excellent” category according to the BREEAM international sustainability standard, he added.
He also said: the certification was done in category 9+1, obtaining the certificate means that the hotel meets strict environmental performance standards to provide its guests with a green and safe environment while minimizing its ecological footprint.
One of the interesting manifestations of their efforts is that this year they installed a colony of bees on the roof of the downtown hotel building, the bees have so far produced 60 kilograms of honey for the hotel’s guests.
