An International Food and Water Sustainability Forum will be held in Budapest in October
Alternative food sources, such as plant proteins, are becoming more and more important in terms of feeding the world’s population. In addition to the rise of complete plant-based nutrition, it is increasingly urgent to create a balance between animal and plant proteins from a sustainability point of view.
Sustainable food production systems, new ingredients, technological innovations and improving the quality of nutrition are all challenges facing the future of the food industry. These will also be discussed at the international Food and Water Sustainability Business Forum on October 4 in Budapest, organized by the Canadian-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to traditional production, Hungarian agriculture has the opportunity to serve the ever-increasing demand for alternative and sustainable food throughout Europe. There is an increasing interest in sustainable food, which is also confirmed by the fact that the costs of traditional food sources continue to rise. Many people therefore turn to the development of sustainable technologies that utilize plant-based proteins. Infrastructure to support growth is critical here, as are raw materials such as corn, barley, water, and skilled labor.
Investors see opportunities not only in new online businesses that appear due to growing demand, but also take advantage of rapidly emerging environmental challenges. The global trend in the food industry is to develop foods using alternative ingredients that provide nutritional and health benefits. It is a fact that the demand for alternative proteins has increased in recent years. The potential of plant-based proteins and the proliferation of whole plant-based diets offer even greater growth potential for manufacturers of alternative food ingredients.
