Retail sales in Germany slow down in August
Retail sales in Germany slowed in August month-on-month, while annual growth slowed, the German statistics office Destatis reported on Tuesday.
Retail sales fell by 0.2 percent in real terms in August, after a larger 0.5 percent decline in July. Analysts had expected a 0.6 percent increase in August retail sales on a monthly basis.
Retail sales of food products rose by 0.6 percent in August, while non-food products fell by 1 percent compared to the previous month.
Annual growth in retail sales slowed to 1.8 percent in August from 2.9 percent in July. Retail sales of food products fell by 0.6 percent in August, while non-food products grew by 3.2 percent year-on-year.
