Wholesale prices in Germany rose in June
In Germany, the annual growth of wholesale prices accelerated in June, while the monthly rate remained the same as in May, according to data released by the German Federal Statistical Office, Destatis, on Friday.
In Germany, wholesale prices rose by 0.9 percent in June compared to June last year, after the annual growth in May was 0.4 percent. In June, wholesale prices rose by 0.2 percent compared to May, when they also rose by 0.2 percent.
The largest annual price increase in June, 4.2 percent, was recorded for food, beverages and tobacco. The wholesale price of coffee, tea, cocoa and spices was 26.2 percent higher than a year earlier, while the price of sugar, confectionery and bakery products increased by 18.2 percent. Milk, dairy products, eggs, edible fats and oils also cost 8.8 percent more than a year ago.
In contrast, wholesale prices for solid fuels and petroleum products, among others, fell by 5.9 percent compared to June last year.
In Germany, wholesale prices fell by an annual average of 1.3 percent last year compared to 2023, with a 5.4 percent drop in the price of petroleum products in particular playing a role. The wholesale prices of coffee, tea, cocoa and spices rose the most last year, by an average of 15.6 percent compared to the previous year.
