Germany would ban the production of strawberries
Too much water is required for the production of strawberries, which is why the Minister of Environmental Protection in Lower Saxony would eventually ban it, along with several other water-intensive crops.

The German Federal Committee of Fruit and Vegetable Growers naturally expressed its indignation upon hearing the news. Climate protection is important for Germany, which is why politicians have also scrutinized crop production for this purpose. After the environment minister of Lower Saxony realized that some vegetables and fruits, such as strawberries, require more water than others during their cultivation, he shared ideas that they should be banned – in order to maintain the local food supply.
According to the fruit growers, the Minister of Environmental Protection is working from false data
The president of the German Federal Fruit and Vegetable Growers Committee (BOG), Jens Stechmann, immediately reacted strongly to the idea. He explained that, on the one hand, strawberries are grown on only 0.1% of the total agricultural area in Germany, and on the other hand, according to surveys conducted by Ökotest, 1 kg of German strawberries require only 16 liters of fresh water, compared to 76 liters used to irrigate fruits grown in Spain. The president also stated that the minister would make the decision on the ban based on false comparative data, but instead he should work with the sector players on a real solution to the problem.
