SZÉP card holders spend more on food than on travel
In the first month of this year’s summer season, in July, 40 percent less was spent on accommodation with the Szép card than in 2021, when domestic vacations became free again after the epidemic, reports 24.hu.
The tax concession provided by the Szép card was originally intended to stimulate domestic tourism. Despite this, Hungarians are spending less and less of their allowance on accommodation, which can be further confirmed by the fact that from August it was again possible to shop freely in shops with the Szép card.
In June, HUF 100 million and in July HUF 549 million less were paid to domestic accommodation providers than a year earlier.
– this can be seen from the KSH data received by the Hungarian Tourist Agency.
The decline compared to 2021 is even more noticeable: in June of this year, the Szép card income of hotels was 1.25 billion less, and in July 3.65 billion less. If inflation is also taken into account, this decrease is even more significant.
