Czech farmers do not like the increased import of Ukrainian agricultural products into the European Union
The planned increased import of selected Ukrainian products into the European Union endangers Czech sugar production, the Czech Food Chamber pointed out in a statement on Tuesday.

Czech food producers fear that increased imports of cheap Ukrainian sugar and other agricultural products would destroy Czech sugar production, and Czech poultry farmers have expressed similar concerns. The Czech Food Chamber has called on the government to reject the increase in imports of Ukrainian agricultural products. “If Ukrainian import quotas continue to increase, there is a real risk that more factories will have to close and investments will be pointless, not only in sugar production, but also in other similarly sensitive areas,” said Dana Vecerová, president of the Czech Food Chamber.
According to the chamber, cheap Ukrainian imports were the reason why a major Czech sugar factory recently closed its doors
Producers now fear a repeat of this. According to Czech Agriculture Minister Marek Vyborny, only the framework of the EU-Ukraine agreement is known for now, and he believes that the details must be awaited. The minister called it important that the EU intends to place greater emphasis on raising the quality of Ukrainian products in the agreement.
