The 30,000-forint pensioner food voucher cannot be used in all stores
Between September 1 and October 15, the 30,000-forint pensioner food voucher will be delivered to those affected, in several denominations and on paper. The voucher aims to support the elderly’s food purchasing opportunities – however, its usability is limited.
According to the State Treasury, the voucher can only be redeemed at retailers and primary producers who sell cold food in non-catering settings – i.e., for example, in shops or market stalls. On the other hand, the voucher will not be accepted in places where food trade is not the main activity: for example, in drugstores, gas stations or convenience stores.
The voucher is not personal, anyone can redeem it, but it is only valid in its original, undamaged form. During use, the retailer is obliged to check its authenticity and integrity, and may only accept it as a means of payment up to the value of the denomination written on it. No refunds are possible: for example, if a 1,000-forint voucher is used to pay for a 750-forint product, the difference cannot be refunded and cannot be used later.
If the voucher arrives damaged, a replacement can be requested using the Hungarian State Treasury form “Request for inspection of damaged or incomplete pensioner food voucher”. After inspection, the processing center – if it can be validated based on the security features – will mail the replacement vouchers exclusively in the 1,000-forint denomination to the applicant’s registered address.
The voucher can be used for all cold food products – even for sale products – but only within the product range specified by law. Further detailed information on the terms and conditions of use is also available on the State Treasury website.
