According to EU, the U.S. genetically modified corn is not harmfu
The European Union's Food Safety Agency (EFSA), reaffirmed that the genetically modified MON 810 corn, banned in a number of EU countries is not harmful to human, animal health and the environment.
On the basis of the resolution of EFSA, the European Commission will probably propose to renew the distribution of the product. Six EU member states, including Hungary, however, do not currently allow this kind of cultivation. Research shows that a it can deteriorate the productivity of the soil, can put negative impact on living conditions of some butterflies and insects, and produces several pesticides. A broad debate can be developed in Brussels. According to Greenpeace, the EFSA and the Commission should take account on new scientific results – reports Népszabadság Online.
