27 percent VAT is not conflicting with the EU rules
There is no legal obligation in the European Union that the VAT rate should be below 25 percent, so the Hungarian 27 percent rate does not conflict with EU rules.
The 27 percent VAT rate of Hungary is not conflicting with the EU rules – told David Boubil, spokesman of the tax, customs, audit and anti-corruption committee of the EU to Reuters. “If Hungary decides to increase the VAT rate to 27 percent, the Commission will not do anything, because there is no legal requirement, that it must be under 25 percent” – said the spokesman – reports MTI.
