No decrease at illegal software use
As much as 42 percent of new software acquisitions are illegal copies in Hungary, which causes damages estimated at USD 111 million to the industry.
According to Georg Herrnleben, regional director of the
anti-piracy trade group Business Software Alliance the main problem is that the
rate of illegal software use has been unchanged for years. The reason is that
under difficult economic conditions, company leaders are less willing to invest
in legal software. And the damage caused by piracy affects not only the
software industry, but also the state, which loses billions of forints in tax
revenues, he said.
