The test results of the sharp-strong pepper seeds are not spicy
Specialists of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) examined the seeds of hot peppers in the latest test of the Supermenta program. Spicy and strong peppers often find a place in small gardens, as they can be a great addition to Sunday soup, weekend potlucks and various sandwiches. Those who like the spicy taste can choose from several types of hot pepper seeds. During its most recent test, Supermenta examined a total of 12 seeds intended for sowing in small gardens, among which were four coated and seven hybrids. Regarding their origin, nine were domestic and three were foreign.
In the case of seeds, Nébih’s laboratory experts primarily examined the main quality indicators: germination capacity and purity
They also checked the foreign seed content of the batches, i.e. whether they contain foreign seeds of a different species than peppers. The results are reassuring, as each product met the relevant limit values. The official inspectors also paid attention to the labeling of pepper seeds. They checked the existence of mandatory markings and basic product information, such as the indication of variety and origin. During the investigation, it was also a consideration whether the seeds were offered to customers in quality-preserving, closed packaging. The tested products proved to be suitable based on all criteria.
This time, the popularity test took the form of a questionnaire
The participants evaluated the products based on aspects that are important as users, such as the information on the packaging and the existence and comprehensibility of the instructions for use. In addition, the office’s experts evaluated the results of laboratory tests of the most important quality indicators: germination capacity and purity.
The final ranking was based on the aggregated results of the popularity and the official test
Royal Sluis Magrovet Cristobal F1 took the top step of the podium, Rédei Kertimag Palóc F1 took second place, and Royal Sluis Magrovet Csípős Spirál F1 and Garafarm Magrovet Hot Spirál F1 finished in a tie for third place. As a kind of continuation of the product test, the specialists monitor the development of the tested seeds sown at the Nébih variety breeding station in Monorierde. The Supermenta team will also report on practical experiences.
