One-fifth of the vegetable harvest of a southern Chinese province may be contaminated with heavy metals
Because of soil contamination, fifth of the vegetables from southern China's Guangdong province can contain harmful heavy metals – the Chinese press reports on the recent food scandal.
According to a southern Chinese newspaper the Nanfang Csoumo, soil contamination reached “scary levels” on the farms by the Pearl River Delta, primarily as a result of the harmful activities of the corporations and manufacturing centers. One-fifth of the vegetable harvest may be contaminated with heavy metals in that area. (MTI, Szerencsi Ágnes)
