Vegetable growers can expect a difficult period
Due to the massive influx of Ukrainian crops, those Hungarian vegetable producers who cannot irrigate and are faced with a serious price drop on the market are in danger. According to experts, the problem can only be solved with EU intervention.
Hungarian arable vegetable growers may find themselves in a difficult situation due to the price drop caused by Ukrainian crops. The low prices characteristic of Ukrainian products also affect green peas and sweet corn, for which experts have experienced a 35-45% price drop. According to Zoltán Szőke-Kis, managing director of Szőke és Szujó Kft., these plants are already on the verge of profitability. Industrial tomatoes are the only exception, where prices remained at last year’s level.
The presence of Ukrainian crops on the EU and domestic markets is the biggest problem for field vegetable growers. The Müller company is financing the project, in the framework of which an 8,500-square-meter business building and 40 rental apartments will be built on the corner of Váci utca and Régi posta utca. The project will be carried out by SWIETELSKY Magyarország Kft., and according to the plans, it will include both commercial and residential units. During the construction, elements of the previous structure were taken into account, for example, the staircase of the former Fontana house was integrated into the new mechanical tower.
