NFC transactions have become very popular in just a few months
The proportion of cash withdrawals without a physical bank card at K&H ATMs is gradually increasing. In the first month after the launch in January, this scenario was the case for 41 percent of transactions, in February it was 44 percent, and in March it was 48 percent – meaning that the NFC solution was chosen for almost every second cash withdrawal.
After the launch, cardless cash withdrawals and deposits at K&H ATMs became very popular very quickly – the financial institution announced based on its own data. As part of digital innovations, from January, as part of the financial institution’s customers can use K&H ATMs without a card, using a smartphone or other smart device without a bank card thanks to NFC technology.
Four out of ten, then five out of ten
According to the latest data, in January, i.e. after the launch of the new option, 41 percent of ATM cash withdrawals were made in this way. Since then, the rate has been gradually increasing, reaching 44 percent in February, 46 percent in March, and 48 percent in April.
Norbert Kováts, Head of Retail Network Development at K&H, said: “We expected this solution to be successful, but the data exceeds our expectations. In the first month alone, our customers withdrew cash more than four out of ten times using the smart device solution, and in April this was the scenario for almost every second cash withdrawal. The current data is in line with the development seen in smart device payments: according to our data, in the first three months of this year, smart device payments amounted to HUF 175 billion, which corresponds to a 52 percent increase year-on-year.”
The expert also said that the financial institution’s customers must install their card in the mobile bank, which then processes ATM cash withdrawals and deposits as a virtual card. The advantage of cardless solutions is digital convenience: this innovation can greatly facilitate cash ATM transactions. Last year, customers withdrew or deposited cash at K&H ATMs an average of nearly 33,000 times per day.
