The worst honey crop of the past forty years in Békés county
Due to the extremely bad weather, less than half of the average crop yield was harvested this year Haász Ferenc, president of the Békés County Beekeepers’ Association told MTI. Haász Ferenc is also the main organizer of the 6th Honey and Gingerbread International Festival, that will begin on Friday in Gyula.
He explained: the acacia crop is an average of eight to ten kilograms per bee family, while in a good year it is twenty kilograms per bee family. He added that the quality was not bad, only the quantity was less than average. However, it increased the wholesale purchase prices by 65 to 70 percent in the case of the acacia even up to 80 percent. Last year, the wholesale purchase prices were around 1200 to 1300 HUF – he added. (MTI)
