The world produces four billion tons of food – half of this amount ends as garbage
Nowadays we produce roughly four billion tons of food each year. It is estimated that about 30 to 50 percent (from 1.2 to 2 billion tons) never make it to the stomach of the people. This means wasting the wasting of the natural energy sources – shows the report of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
The experts point out that 550 billion cubic meters of water is used in agriculture to produce crops, which were then never be consumed. Until 2050, the water needed to produce food demand could reach 10 to 13 trillion cubic meters.
According to the report, half of the food purchased in the United States and Europe ends in the trasher as “garbage”. (energiaoldal.hu)
