In the summer season, many people go on vacation with their pets. The idea of a shared car holiday can be attractive, but it doesn’t hurt to be aware of the basic rules for the safe transport of animals. Hungary’s leading fleet manager, ALD Automotive | LeasePlan experts now present some tips on what to pay attention to so that the trip is a pleasant experience not only for the owner, but also for the pet.

Most dogs enjoy car rides, especially if they have been used to traveling from a young age. Going on the road with adults is not necessarily a big effort either, but it requires more patience and gradualism. We start getting to know each other with a stationary car, then short trips before embarking on longer trips. Safety is key, since according to KRESZ, dogs are considered cargo. That is why a box fixed in the trunk is recommended for large children, a car harness for medium-sized children, and a safety car seat for smaller children. Remember: in addition to the safety of the animal, the protection of the passengers is also an important aspect. The necessary equipment during the trip is the leash, depending on the individual temperament, the muzzle, the car cover, the drinking bowl and the water.

Although cats generally prefer the tranquility of the home, with proper preparation, the trip can be enjoyable for them too. In this case, too, it is worth starting the training early, with as short trips as possible. An indispensable accessory is the transport basket, which can be attached to the seat with a seat belt. In addition, we also need a cat harness, some kind of towel or blanket that can be placed in the basket, and catnip or pheromone spray can also come in handy to calm the kitten down. In addition to all this, it doesn’t hurt to have an absorbent pad and a roll of paper towels handy in the car. When it comes to traveling with cats, patience is also the key: let the kitten explore on its own, and make the process more pleasant with toys or reward snacks.
