Four tons of meat products seized in Röszke
In November, the tax inspectors seized a total of about four tons of various animal products in six shipments at the Röszke border crossing – the Csongrád-Csanád County Tax and Customs Directorate of the National Tax and Customs Administration informed MTI on Monday.
According to the statement, the passengers did not even try to hide some of the shipments coming from Kosovo and Serbia, but there was a driver who wanted to be on the safe side to avoid the caught, so he added a hiding place to his vehicle.
The cargo – 3927 kilograms of raw, smoked pork and beef products, as well as frozen, smoked poultry and mutton – was handed over by the tax guards at the animal health border post of the Csongrád-Csanád County Government Office.
The authority immediately ordered the destruction of the large amount of illegal goods.
According to the statement, food of animal origin from countries outside the European Union – such as raw meat, meat-containing foods, milk and milk-containing products – import is risky due to the possible spread of animal diseases, so it is subject to strict rules.
In case of violation of the rules, these products may be returned, confiscated or destroyed.
