The euro area consumer price index fell in August for the first time in four years
In August, the euro area consumer price index fell in August, compared to the previous month for the first time in four years, due to the fall in energy prices – according to a report by the European Union’s statistical office, Eurostat.
In the 19 euro area Member States, consumer prices fell on an annual basis for the first time in August for four years, since May 2016: the consumer price index fell by 0.2 percent after an annual rise of 0.4 percent in July.
A year earlier, in August 2019, the annual rise in the consumer price index (inflation) in the euro area was 1.0 percent. (MTI)
