Nébih: A grape disease called golden yellows has also appeared in the Villány region
The grapevine disease known as golden yellows has also appeared in the Villány region, so 15 out of 22 Hungarian wine regions are now affected – reads the information published on the website of the National Food Chain Safety Authority (Nébih) on Tuesday.
Most of the grape varieties in the Villány wine region are susceptible to the pathogen, and the spread can only be prevented with effective preventive measures. According to the announcement, those who use unverified propagation material or do not protect themselves against the American grapevine cicada that spreads the disease face serious plant health and economic risks.
Nébih explained that the effective measures mean that the historical wine regions of the northern part of the country remain free of the pathogen. If its spread cannot be stopped, official plant health measures may be necessary – the announcement indicated.
The Nébih page on the American cicada provides information on the most important information, actions to be taken and possible consequences.
