Nébih: Golden yellow grape disease has appeared in new wine regions
The laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Authority (Nébih) has detected golden yellow grape disease in the Balatonfüred-Csopak and Eger wine regions, so the pathogen has already appeared in 17 out of 22 wine regions – Nébih told MTI on Monday.
Experts from the regionally competent government offices have begun plant health measures in both places. All vines within a 1-kilometer radius around the affected plantations will be examined, and vines showing symptoms will be destroyed in the infected areas. The distribution and transport of grape propagating material from these areas is also prohibited, and intensive reconnaissance and a mandatory protection program will be implemented in a buffer zone of an additional 3 kilometers radius around the infection – they wrote. Nébih once again calls the attention of all vineyard owners to preventive protection. The disease can only be controlled by using controlled, healthy propagation material and by regular control of the vector, the American grapevine cicada. It is also important that suspicions of the disease are reported immediately to the plant health inspectors of the county government offices and to Nébih – the announcement reads.
