Nébih: the documentation of antibiotic treatments of food-producing animals is still inaccurate
The willingness to report has improved, but there is still a lot of inaccurately recorded data on antibiotic treatments for food-producing animals, the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) told MTI on Wednesday.
They reminded me that, starting this year, it is mandatory to provide data to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) at the EU level. Data on the wholesale of antibiotic-containing veterinary medicinal products must be provided in the ASU (Antimicrobial Sales and Use) system by June 30, while data on their use in farm animals (cattle, pigs, hens and turkeys) by the end of September.
It was pointed out that since January 2022 in Hungary, it has been a requirement that all food-producing animals must report antibiotic treatment to the attending veterinarian, and from the beginning of this year, the rules for writing prescriptions became stricter. According to Nébih’s experience, the fulfillment of the obligation to provide data is constantly improving: compared to the previous year, information on breeding codes was received by 16.5 percent this year, and the number of veterinarians submitting reports increased. At the same time, the proportion of inaccurately recorded data is still high.
