Nébih: Hungary had to take action against more than 300 risky products last year
More than 300 risky products had to be taken into account in Hungary last year based on the European Union’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF), the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) told MTI on Tuesday.
According to the information, Hungary was involved in 309 of the 5,250 cases reported in the alert system in 2024. The vast majority of cases, 276, were related to food. There were 16 problems with feed and 15 with food contact materials. Member States also reported 2 additional cases related to live animals on the RASFF system. 88 percent of the cases concerned products produced abroad.
Most cases in Hungary last year were primarily related to poultry meat, vegetables and fruits, as well as cereals and bakery products.
Hungarian authorities had to take action in 63 cases involving poultry meat and products made from it, in 33 cases vegetables and fruits were examined, and in 24 cases cereal products and bakery products.
Hungary reported 63 cases through the system last year, all of which were related to risky food.
Nébih said that they are also actively involved in the operation of the AAC system, which deals with non-conformities, such as quality defects and labeling problems. Last year, 111 requests for information were received by the Hungarian authorities on this platform, of which 53 were related to food, 39 to live animals and 13 to feed.
Similar to previous years, most requests last year were related to problems with the transport and documentation of live animals. In addition, several questions were received regarding dietary supplements, mainly due to the inclusion of unauthorized health claims.
