The authority explains: the basis of prevention is controlled and quality-certified propagation material, as well as protection against the American grapevine beetle that spreads the pathogen. An important tool for their control is the late-winter wash-off spraying, but pruning cannot be neglected either. Moldy clusters remaining on the branches or the support system, damaged, frost-damaged, dried-up branches due to bacterial or fungal infection must be removed, and unnecessary branches appearing at the base of the vine and on the trunk must be removed. The prunings can also be infected, so care must be taken to destroy them – the announcement drew attention. The larvae of the American grape cicada have been observed hatching on the undersides of the lower leaves of the vines since the beginning of May. The infection has so far been confirmed by the Nébih in 21 wine regions in 18 counties, with the situation being most serious in Zala and Veszprém counties. The golden yellowing of the grapes is a notifiable, quarantine pest, and its appearance must be reported immediately – the announcement reads.
