Nébih: measures due to the foot-and-mouth disease epidemic have been amended and supplemented
In order to curb the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) epidemic, the national chief veterinarian will introduce new measures from March 30 and modify existing ones: among other things, the organization of fairs and exhibitions presenting species susceptible to the disease will be prohibited throughout the country, the National Food Chain Safety Authority (Nébih) announced to MTI on Saturday.
According to the announcement, it is prohibited to transport susceptible animals into all restricted areas, and to export animals from there – regardless of purpose – outside Hungary.
It was emphasized that in the protection and observation zones around the Slovak and Hungarian outbreaks, animals susceptible to FMD must be kept closed until at least April 7; they may not be released into pastures, pens, or runs.
In these areas – apart from home slaughter – susceptible animals may only be slaughtered in slaughterhouses designated by the authority and several rules apply to the transport of the resulting fresh meat, for example, these products may not be transported to another Member State or third country.
It was also pointed out that the areas outside the protection and surveillance zones, so-called additional restrictions, include the remaining part of Győr-Moson-Sopron county and the Komárom, Tata and Esztergom districts of Komárom-Esztergom county.
