Despite some irregularities – such as incomplete management of the product accompanying document and untraceable, incorrectly labeled products – the inspection of wine measurement units in the Tokaj wine region yielded reassuring results, the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) told MTI on Monday.

According to the statement, Nébih inspected the wine measurement units of producers in the Tokaj wine region’s tourist-focused locations, as well as the wine and alcoholic beverage offerings of catering establishments, in May.

In the operation, the authority’s people focused, among other things, on whether the wine products and alcoholic beverages distributed were suitable from a food safety perspective, and whether the quality, traceability of the products, and the hygiene status of the locations complied with legal requirements.

The office examined 51 batches of domestically produced wine at the 18 selected inspected locations, and they proved to be suitable in all cases.

In addition, the valid marketing identifier of 150 wine products was checked using the Nébih Navigator application. All of the checked items were compliant.

They added that in the case of spirits, it is an important task to identify the distribution of possible home-made spirits. The authority carried out on-site inspections and measurements in 10 cases, and all items were compliant.

The authority also examined the hygienic compliance of the units and the medical fitness of the staff. At seventeen locations, the hygiene conditions were adequate, but in one case the producer had to be warned about thorough cleaning and regular cleaning of the tanks. In 7 cases, the employees of the wine measurement units were unable to credibly prove their medical fitness.

In one case, the destruction of the unmarked product was ordered, and in one case, action had to be taken due to the incomplete and inaccurate management of the accompanying product document and an untraceable, incorrectly marked product. The authority ordered the seizure of 646.5 liters of wine products from the latter.
