Nébih: the bluetongue disease has appeared in Hungary
The national animal health reference laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (NÉBIH) detected bluetongue disease in the southern part of Csongrád county. Around 20 km radius of the affected farms the movement of animals is banned – the NÉBIH told MTI on Tuesday.
The viral disease is spread by mosquitos. Only cattle, sheep and goats, and wild ruminants are susceptible to the bluetongue virus. The virus is harmless to human health. The food produced from potentially infected animals do not pose a threat as well. The disease with high fever attacks the tongue the digestive system and muscles of the ruminant animals. (MTI)
