Nébih: poultry must be kept closed again in seven counties due to the risk of bird flu
Due to the increased risk of bird flu, the national chief veterinarian Szabolcs Pásztor ordered the compulsory confinement of commercial poultry in high-risk areas, the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) told MTI on Monday.

The decision of the national chief veterinarian affects the counties of Bács-Kiskun, Békés, Csongrád-Csanád, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Hajdú-Bihar, Komárom-Esztergom and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg. In these areas, all poultry kept for commercial purposes must be kept in a closed building, if the animals’ enclosure is not protected from above and from the sides by bird netting of sufficient strength.
For so-called backyard herds in high-risk counties, only indoor feeding and drinking is mandatory
However, it is in the interest of every animal keeper to reduce the risk of direct or indirect contact with wild birds, so it is recommended to keep backyard flocks closed as well. They also mentioned that in the counties of Bács-Kiskun, Csongrád-Csanád and Békés, the mandatory laboratory examination of waterfowl before transport to the slaughterhouse is still in force.
