Nébih: the domestic watermelon under scrutiny
During the summer seasonal food chain inspection, the fruit and vegetable quality inspectors of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) and county government offices inspected 268 distributors and 311 watermelon lots in the second half of July. The aim of the inspections was to ensure the quality and traceability of the watermelons.
The inspectors visited 268 watermelon distributors and examined a total of 311 product lots, of which 298 were of domestic origin, while 13 were of foreign origin. During the tests, the majority of watermelons met the expectations from a quality point of view, however, in some cases marking errors and traceability problems were revealed.
Main Results:
- Imposition of 16 fines: The authority imposed fines totaling more than HUF 1.5 million.
- Withdrawal of 5.5 tons of product: 12 items, a total of 5,540 kg of melons, were withdrawn from circulation.
- reasons for objections: marking error in 12 cases, and in 1 case, an objection was made due to violation of hygiene requirements.
