According to the statement, the disease was detected on a breeding turkey pre-rearing farm with 7,600 birds in Békésszentandrás, while in a liver goose farm with 5,500 birds in Orosháza. The suspicion of bird flu arose on both farms due to the increased mortality, and nervous system symptoms, lethargy, and a decrease in feed and drinking water consumption were also experienced.
The H5N1 subtype of the virus was detected at both locations.
The authority has set up a 3-kilometer protection zone and an extended surveillance zone in Békésszentandrás, while a 3-kilometer protection zone and a 10-kilometer surveillance zone have come into effect in Orosháza. The epidemiological investigation and the eradication of the populations are currently underway, they wrote. They have called on animal keepers to fully comply with the disease control regulations, as the disease is also present in wild birds.
