The laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) has identified the presence of the highly pathogenic bird flu virus in a mulard duck flock in Bács-Kiskun County; the affected flock is in the process of being eradicated – the office’s website reads.

According to the information, the disease was detected in a mulard duck flock of five thousand individuals in Kiskunfélegyháza. The suspicion of bird flu arose due to a decrease in water consumption. In addition, the animals showed nervous system symptoms and the mortality rate also increased slightly.

The authority has designated a 3-kilometer protection zone and an extended surveillance zone around the farm

They emphasized that preventing the appearance and further spread of the disease is crucial for the entire poultry sector. It is essential to fully comply with disease control measures on livestock farms, to prevent cross-infection from wild birds, to be vigilant among livestock keepers and veterinarians, and to send samples quickly and follow the usual protocols in case of suspicion – the Nébih called attention.

Avian influenza appeared in two fattening turkey farms in Szentes in Csongrád-Csanád County at the beginning of January

Later, at the end of January, in Békés County, in a farm in Orosháza and a farm in Békésszentandrás, and then a few days later in a goose flock in Jász-Nagykun Szolnok County, the presence of the virus was also detected. In Bács-Kiskun County, avian influenza first appeared in a roast duck farm in Lakitelek at the beginning of February, and then at the end of the month, the presence of the virus was detected again in Csongrád-Csanád County on a farm in Zsombó.
