NAV: more than 460 liters of illegal pálinka and hundreds of packs of cigarettes found at a house
The National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) has discovered homemade distilleries, more than 460 liters of unlicensed alcohol and hundreds of boxes of illegal cigarettes in Pest County, the agency announced.
According to the statement, the tax inspectors were conducting an inspection at a private individual’s home when they found a large amount of spirits and a homemade brandy distilling device in the back yard.
The 44-year-old homeowner said that he brewed the alcohol himself, but did not want to name the maker of the illegal distilling device.
After it became clear that alcoholic products with different labels and packaging were increasingly being found, the tax inspectors searched the entire property; more than three hundred boxes of cigarettes of various types, unsealed and with Bulgarian seals, were found in the porta’s laundry room.
The authority seized the home equipment used to produce the distillate, which was obtained and kept without a license, 462.5 liters of alcohol of unverified origin, and 330 packs of illegal cigarettes. Proceedings have been initiated in the case for violation of excise laws; the man can also expect a fine of almost four million forints, the NAV wrote in the statement, reminding that distilling is not prohibited, but is a strictly regulated activity.
