NAV: more than 1,300 boxes of smuggled cigarettes found in a Belgian van
More than 1,300 boxes of smuggled cigarettes were found by tax officers in a Belgian van that was checked on the M5 motorway, the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) told MTI on Tuesday.
According to the statement, two men were sitting in the vehicle, which was traveling from Bulgaria to Belgium; The driver and his companion also stated that they were not transporting excise goods.
However, during the inspection of the truck, 1,340 boxes of cigarettes without Hungarian stamps were found.
The tax inspectors seized cigarettes worth more than 3.5 million forints, and a case has been opened for violation of excise laws and budget fraud, the statement says.
