NAV: Financial inspectors found fake fan products sold as replicas
Financial inspectors found thousands of products with the logos of well-known sports brands and foreign club teams at the headquarters of a company; the products were advertised as replicas by the company, the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) told MTI on Wednesday.
According to their statement, tax inspectors continue to monitor online marketplaces and web stores to filter out illegal sales and protect the interests of copyright holders and consumers. Particular attention should be paid to products offered with the replica designation, as these may also be infringing – they warned.
The employees of the Pest County Tax and Customs Directorate of the National Tax Authority recently investigated a webshop that offered fan products with the replica designation, but during a test purchase, suspicions arose that the product sold was fake.
Therefore, the tax inspectors of the National Tax Authority also conducted an inspection at the company’s headquarters and found more than a thousand products with the logos of well-known sports brands and foreign club teams.
The goods were also carefully examined by the representatives of the trademark owners, and they determined that all of them were low-quality counterfeits.
The financial police seized a total of 1,032 counterfeit products and initiated proceedings for infringement of industrial property rights.
Since they did not receive an invoice when making the trial purchase, proceedings were also initiated for failure to issue a receipt.
The financial loss caused to the rights holders exceeds 20 million forints – the statement says.
