NAV raided the parking lot of the Wholesale Market – several tons of unmarked goods were found
The National Tax and Customs Administration carried out a coordinated operation against a foreign freight forwarding network in the parking lot of the Budapest Wholesale Market, according to a statement from the authority. During the raid, approximately 6 tons of walnuts, 2.5 tons of grapes and several tons of other vegetables and fruits were seized, the origin of which the vendors could not prove.
The vendors, mostly Romanian citizens, tried to sell the uncontrolled products in the parking lot using trucks with Polish license plates and converted into smuggling cargo, bypassing the required trade and food safety rules.
Several authorities took action in the case:
-
NAV – fines of up to 10 million forints for non-compliance may impose,
-
Police – on-the-spot fines were issued,
-
NKFH – launched an investigation due to the lack of marking and traceability.
The authorities are closely monitoring cases where food of uncontrolled origin could be placed on the market, especially with regard to large quantities of imported products.
