NAV: unmarked food, cigarettes and alcohol were also found in a Romanian van
A Romanian driver whose van was stopped at Hegyeshalom by the staff of the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) received a fine of almost one million forints; unmarked food, untaxed alcohol and cigarettes were also found in the vehicle.
NAV informed MTI on Tuesday that the tax inspectors also found four hundred kilograms of raw meat, eggs, and untaxed alcohol and tobacco products in the vehicle, which was stopped on the Győr section of the highway. In addition, the vehicle weighed 3,860 kilograms more than the permitted weight.
The 37-year-old man who was driving the car said that the tobacco and alcohol were his own and that he was delivering the other goods as postal packages to Ireland.
Due to unrefrigerated raw meat and unmarked eggs, the financial officers notified the staff of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih), who immediately ordered the destruction of the irregularly delivered food, while the staff of NAV seized the excise products.
