In the first week of March, the office will pay nationwide attention to inspecting flower, candy and gift sellers. The auditors will examine the issuance of receipts and invoices, the proper operation of online cash registers, the reporting of employees, and the origin of the goods sold, the National Tax and Customs Office (NAV) announced on Monday.

Businesses operating irregularly take a serious risk. Anyone who does not issue receipts or does not report their employees can expect a fine of two million forints. It is important to know that the same fine can be imposed in the case of simplified employment if the notification is not made before the start of work.

Where inspectors find goods of unverified origin, the affected company can receive a fine of up to 40 percent of the turnover value of the goods. A minimum fine also applies for this violation: at least 200 thousand forints for private individuals and sole proprietors, and at least half a million forints for companies – the office warned.

The work of the inspectors is also supported by the enforcement specialists of the National Tax Authority. In the event of a serious violation – if, based on the available data, it is doubtful that the expected fine would be paid – the office may apply a temporary security measure, thus protecting the budget, it may even seize the stock of goods – the Tax Office added.

With its inspections, the Tax Office not only serves to protect budget revenues, but also supports law-abiding businesses: it takes action against those who seek an unfair competitive advantage through tax evasion and income concealment.

It is worth following the Tax Office’s Adótraffipax column, where the office indicates in advance where and what types of inspections are expected in the near future – the tax office recommended.
