The National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) always acts in accordance with valid and effective legislation, and in the Tax Trafficking section of its website it indicates in advance where and what types of inspections are expected – NAV told MTI on Monday, describing as unfounded the news that the authority held an impromptu, intimidating raid in Heves County on Monday.

In its statement, the tax office explains that the inspections were decided on using a statistical model developed based on data science methods. The tax and customs data used come from online cash registers, the Online Invoice system, eKÁER, declarations, international information exchanges, and EU data services. The tax authority’s algorithm identifies risks based on these, and the selection model is nationwide.

According to their statement, the receipts and invoices, as well as the employment reports, were checked at the 18 companies inspected on Monday – several of which are not even headquartered in Heves County – and the inspectors found serious omissions in more than a third of the cases.

The Tax and Customs Administration emphasized:

These procedures are not surprising; auditors have been examining the fulfillment of tax obligations, especially the issuance of invoices and receipts, the origin of goods, and the regularity of employment, for decades. Last year there were 80 thousand such inspections, and at least that many are expected this year.

NAV always acts free from party politics – they state in the statement, adding: in the Tax Traffic Pax section they indicate in advance where and what type of inspections are expected.
