Skiers can expect an average travel insurance premium of around 870 forints per day this season.
This season, the average ski insurance premium is around 870 forints per day and per person, which is about 3 percent higher than the previous season’s average of 845 forints – Insura.hu announced to MTI on Monday, based on data from current travel insurance options and previously concluded contracts.
On the insurance brokerage portal’s pages, the average daily premium for travel insurance during the holiday season was 710 forints, while the 870 forints calculated for winter sports exceeds this by 23 percent.
The reason for the additional premium is additional services related to skiing, such as helicopter rescue, which is now almost without exception part of all ski insurance. Compensation for equipment is also part of an average construction.
In addition, year after year, more and more skiers are choosing premium products such as reimbursement of accommodation, ski passes or other programs not used due to the complete or partial failure of the trip
– they announced.
Gábor Kozma, CEO of Insura.hu, highlighted in the announcement: according to market estimates, nearly two-thirds of those planning to travel take out travel insurance before their trip abroad, and in the case of ski insurance, this rate is nearly 80 percent.
This is no coincidence, as compared to an average sightseeing trip, anyone who skips this protection may face a much greater risk and much more significant expenses, he added.
The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) can only supplement travel insurance in any case, its shortcomings are mainly evident on the ski slopes. Here, patient transport (for which the EEK does not provide any coverage) can often only be done by helicopter due to the specifics of the terrain, the costs of which amount to several million forints.
Another problem may be that injured people requiring urgent care from many ski resorts may end up in private healthcare institutions that do not accept the EEK
– he explained.
It was announced that, based on the destination, Austria could be the most popular this year, as last year, 63 percent of ski insurance policies were taken out for this destination last season. Another 10 percent traveled to Slovak ski resorts.
The remaining 27 percent mostly targeted the French, Italian, Polish and Slovenian mountains. Skiing is an intensive sport, and it is typically the younger generation that takes out ski insurance: 80 percent of insured passengers are under 45 years old.
