NAK: more than 100 thousand people have already signed the agricultural petition
More than 100 thousand people have already signed the agricultural petition initiated by the Association of Hungarian Farmers’ Associations and Agricultural Cooperatives (MAGOSZ) and the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) – the Wednesday post on the NAK’s social media page reads.

The collection of signatures, titled “We will protect Hungarian farmers!” and “Get rid of agricultural subsidies!”, is also supported by the government – they reminded. The initiative was justified by the fact that the European Commission would take away area-based subsidies from farmers and “flood the EU market with dubious imported food”.
The proposal is outrageously supported by some Hungarian MEPs – they added. Zsolt Papp, the president of the NAK, told MTI that the questionnaire can be filled out on the website agrarpeticio.hu
According to the announcement on the website, Brussels is preparing to remove area-based subsidies, which farmers receive for producing in compliance with strict EU regulations. The contested measure would ruin Hungarian producers who produce quality food and would also endanger food security. He added that a resolution entitled Strategic Dialogue was issued on behalf of Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, summarizing the most important plans. This document clearly states that they want to phase out area-based agricultural subsidies. We “most firmly reject” reducing the resources of the common agricultural policy, and subsidies to farmers cannot be reduced. Any measure that reduces farmers’ resources or burdens their resources with other goals endangers food sovereignty, emphasized Zsolt Papp.
