NAK-MAGOSZ: 200,000 signatures were collected against the uncontrolled influx of imported goods
More than 200,000 signatures have already been collected on the agricultural petition against the influx of uncontrolled imported goods. The results of the joint initiative of the National Chamber of Agrarian Economy (NAK) and the Association of Hungarian Farmers’ Associations and Farmers’ Cooperatives (MAGOSZ) clearly show that Hungarians care about agriculture and stand up for domestic farmers and healthy food, the two organizations wrote in a joint statement on Thursday.

As pointed out, the online petition launched by NAK and MAGOSZ received extremely significant interest. The “We will protect the Hungarian land! We will protect the Hungarian farmers!” more than 200,000 people, both farmers and consumers, have joined the collection of signatures entitled The 200,000 signatures collected clearly show that the issue of agriculture is important to Hungarians. Brussels and its domestic supporters would reduce subsidies to farmers, and area-based subsidies would be completely withdrawn from elderly farmers. The petition’s signatories are strongly opposed to the more than 20 percent reduction in EU agricultural subsidies and consider it unacceptable that the European Commission allows the import of goods from countries outside the EU – from Ukraine, Brazil or, for example, North Africa – without substantive restrictions and controls. This would ruin Hungarian and EU farmers and pose a threat to food safety, they wrote. This was also the theme of the farmers’ demonstration held in Brussels at the end of last year and in Strasbourg at the beginning of this year, where thousands of European farmers stood up for their interests and voiced their dissatisfaction with the European Commission’s plans – reminded the NAK and MAGOSZ. The aim of the agricultural petition is to protect Hungarian farmers and to continue to provide Hungarian consumers with safe, healthy and high-quality food. The 200,000 signatures collected so far on the petition are also a powerful message to Brussels, they said. “We will not let agriculture become a victim of trade deals and faulty EU decisions! We will not allow our markets and farmers to be destroyed! We will protect the Hungarian land, we will protect the Hungarian farmers!” – they said in the statement.
