Aldi US Announces Expansion Plans For 2026
Aldi US has announced plans to open more than 180 new stores across 31 states by the end of 2026.
The expansion is part of a wider strategy that will bring total US investment to $9 billion by 2028.
The discounter expects its US store count to grow to nearly 2,800 locations following the new openings.
By 2028, Aldi aims to increase that number to 3,200.
The retailer noted strong customer growth continues to drive its expansion.
In 2025, Aldi recorded 17 million new customers across US stores.
Planned Openings
Amidst celebrating its 50th year in the US, Aldi will expand in several key markets, including Maine, Colorado, Phoenix, Las Vegas and the Southeast.
The discounter revealed its five-year target in the Colorado market, which includes 50 store openings in Denver and Colorado Springs by 2028.
The opening of Aldi’s Portland store will make Maine the 40th US state to host the German discounter.
In 2026, Aldi aims to open ten stores in Phoenix, which the retailer hopes to increase to 40 by the end of 2030.
Four store openings are also planned for Las Vegas by 2030.
Following its acquisition of Southeastern Grocers in 2024, Aldi will continue converting stores to its own format, adding 80 more to the already 90 opened stores this year.
More than 200 conversions of 200 Southeastern Grocers’ stores are expected by the end of 2027.
Supply Chain Expansion
Aldi will also expand its US supply chain, with three new distribution centres planned by 2029.
In 2027, the discounter will open a new facility in Baldwin, Florida, as well as expand its site in Haines City, Florida.
A distribution centre in Goodyear, Arizona, is planned for 2028.
To support its five-year plan for Colorado, Aldi will also open a facility in Aurora, Colorado.
Atty McGrath, CEO of Aldi US, said, “These strategic investments are all about making sure customers can continue to count on us for the quality, affordable groceries and enjoyable shopping experience they love.
“As we look ahead to out next 50 years in the US, we’ll continue to earn shopper loyalty by staying true to what’s made Aldi successful: keeping things simple and delivering real value.”
Website Upgrade
Aldi will also launch a redesigned website in early 2026.
The update will introduce features for meal planning, recipe shopping and product re-ordering.
McGrath, added, “One in three US households shopped at Aldi this past year, and in 2026 we’re focusing on making it even easier for customers to shop our aisles first.
“That means bringing Aldi to even more neighbourhoods, upgrading our website and planning additional distribution centres to keep our shelves stocked with the products our shoppers love.”
