European strawberry prices have fallen sharply, which also affects the Hungarian market
Polish and Spanish strawberry prices continue to fall and reach lows this season. Prices fell again over the Easter period and, although the pace has moderated, further falls are expected. In the previous five years, there was a similar situation only in 2019, and a further decrease in prices is expected this season.
It is interesting that the price range is independent of the strawberry’s origin and applies to Spanish, Greek and Albanian strawberries, there are no major differences between the supplier countries.
Greek strawberry exporters are performing well, the export of Greek strawberries to European markets increased dynamically compared to the same period of the previous year. However, there were problems with sales in Spain: rot-causing rains and a food safety scandal hampered strawberry sales.
