Large decline in foreign trade of live pigs
According to the Central Statistical Office (KSH), Hungary’s live pig exports decreased by 26.9 percent to 8,500 tons in January-April 2025 compared to the volume sold on the foreign market a year earlier.

Its live pig imports decreased by 49.6 percent to 12,200 tons. The volume of pork sold on the international market decreased by 12.4 percent (48,700 tons) and its value by 17.1 percent in the observed period. The volume of pork imports was 24.2 percent (40,900 tons) and its value was 24.9 percent lower in the examined comparison. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of domestically produced slaughter pigs, excluding VAT and transport costs, was 828 forints/kilogram of carcass warm weight in June 2025, a 4 percent decrease compared to the average price a year earlier.
