Budapest Wholesale Market: the heart of Hungary’s fruit and vegetable sector
The Budapest Wholesale Market is the place where the products of farmers and wholesalers are presented to serve consumer demand six days a week. It was in 1991 that the market opened, and the municipality of Budapest has a 62-percent share in the company that operates the market, the Budapest Wholesale Market Zrt. About 30-40 percent of Hungary’s fresh fruit and vegetable sales are realised here. The market covers an area of 33 hectares, for instance there are 25,000m² of warehouses and cold storage facilities and 1,200 open selling points, serving the needs of nearly 200 wholesale businesses and producers.
