The St. Martin’s Day weekend at Lake Balaton was a great success
Great interest surrounded the St. Martin’s Day programs on the shores of Lake Balaton, where thousands of visitors enjoyed culinary experiences this weekend. The Tihany Gardalia Days, also known as the Garda Festival, celebrated Tihany’s fishing traditions on November 8-10. between, where guests were treated to fish dishes, cooking competitions and show-baking. Martin’s Day events around Lake Balaton attracted similarly large crowds, where visitors from Badacsony to Siófok and Zánka could celebrate with goose dishes and new wines, Tamás Fekete, vice president of the Balaton Tourism Association (BTSZ), told Pénzcentrum.
According to Fekete, gastro-tourism on Lake Balaton plays an increasingly important role in extending the season. In addition to successful local programs, Balaton experts also monitor international trends. Gastronomic tourism is the focus of the 9th UN World Tourism Forum to be held in Manama, Bahrain, on November 18-19. Not only leading tourism professionals, but also Michelin-starred chefs and tech experts will participate in the world event, for example representatives of Meta, who will hold a master class on the role of social networks and technology.
According to Fekete, the “think globally, act locally” principle can be decisive in the future of Balaton tourism. By adapting global trends and exploiting local values, Lake Balaton can become a four-season destination that attracts not only domestic but also foreign tourists all year round.
